The Mijas market comes alive every Wednesday and Saturday in La Cala, on Thursdays there is a lovely little market in Calahonda and Las Lagunas organises it on Saturdays. Calahonda also holds a weekly second hand market on Sunday morning. This is a small market, for a larger choice of second hand furniture, jewellery, clothes and others, you better go on Sunday morning to the 'Hipodromo'.
Fuengirola hosts several bustling markets: in Los Boliches on the Fair Ground you can find over 200 stalls where you can buy great quality fresh fruit and veg plus arts and crafts on Tuesdays as well as a large flea market with furniture, jewellery, toys and even electrical goods on Saturdays in Los Boliches. On Sundays, there is a great fresh fruit and veg market near the Mezquita.
The markets of Mijas and Fuengirola, or those of other town up and down the Costa del Sol aren't just charming attractions - which they definitely are; they play a crucial role in the economic sustainability of these towns. Revenue generated from these markets contributes to infrastructure development, community projects, and local employment opportunities, as they attract anywhere between 5000-20000 visitors depending on the season and location.

You can certainly find almost anything you want at these markets: from clothing and gadgets to souvenirs, shoes, and handbags. It's worth noting that while a 10€ designer handbag might not be the genuine article, it certainly exudes style. Some of the vintage items however are genuine and incredible. For a unique gift, consider Andalusian ceramic or perhaps an apron fashioned to resemble a flamenco dress. Whatever you prefer, you are sure to bring home a touch of Andalusian charm.
